Fumi Kanno Application

Character name: Fumi Kanno
Alternate universe biography: Fumi graduated from one of Japan’s most acclaimed universities with high honours, and long before her peers at that — her genius was such that in spite of, or perhaps because of, her attitude entirely unsuited to gentle teaching and more to highly advanced sink-or-swim education, she was immediately offered a position as Sabaiba’s science teacher. Although she was initially very reluctant to accept the offer, eventually the knowledge that Sabaiba was full of many strange characters and opportunities to do some “learning” of her own was brought to her, and she accepted almost too readily. In the Sabaiba universe, Fumi still spent time in England as an exchange student for a portion of her university education. In most respects she is unchanged from canon Devil Survivor portrayal.
Roleplay sample: “Fumi sighed drearily, her now narrowed eyes judgmentally scanning each and every student in the classroom for some glimmer of intelligence — some sign that they wanted to be here, or if not that, that they would at least be willing to learn. Some sign that there was a natural genius among them, or that some of them at least had the potential to improve. But her standards were too high, and the past week’s orientation had left the students exhausted. One young woman fell halfway out of her seat, her head resting on the shoulder of an uncomfortable-looking male student, his uniform clearly donned in a hurry — never the sign of a smart guy. Her dress was a conscious choice; his was clearly the result of wanting more time for lunch.

She straightened up and looked as dignified as possible. ‘Good morning, class. Today we will be learning about the effects of quantum entanglement on the validity of various scientific theories. If you require an introduction to quantum entanglement, please refer to the textbooks I have provided.’ She gestured to the thirty-odd textbooks on a pocked desk in the corner, arranged neatly in stacks of five. The students that followed her gesture noticed immediately that they were written by the teacher herself. Those that didn’t saw Fumi’s eyes on them, and almost all bolted to attention, even if they didn’t want to.

‘Err… Ms. Kanno, may I ask a question?’ One of the students ventured, nervously. The reply was short and snappy. ‘Only if you have a reason to.’ The student cleared his throat. ‘Ah… What about the orientation?’ Fumi couldn’t help but smile. Whether it was sadistic glee, or genuine happiness in knowing that she would be teaching, and teaching strictly, she replied, ‘Any time we waste on an ‘orientation’ is time you’re not learning.’”
